Code of Conduct

At Sacred Vice, our Code of Conduct has been the solid foundation upon which we’ve built our small brewery. Craft beer is a people-first business, and we’ve put you always in front of our interests.

When many businesses scale, they often forget about the people that helped them grow. Faces become numbers. As we grow, we are doing everything in our power to not lose touch with our original vision. So we’ve put down on paper what we’ve lived by, and will continue to live by. We view this proclamation as the best way to stop any wayward behavior before it starts.

Our values are as follows:

Allyship – A bystander is “a person who is present at an event or incident but does not take part.” We strive to always be allies and never bystanders. We know real advocacy requires engagement and risk. Allies are never impartial. It is with this message in mind that we reserve the right to take action we deem appropriate against anyone whose behavior does not align with our core values. This applies to those who work for us, those who work with us, and to all our guests, partners, and vendors.

Family – SV is about the shared dream of two cousins and the bond they developed as kids and continue to build as adults. It’s about inviting our peers and community into that bond as well. Family is the foundation of our love for beer. At the same time, we prioritize work life balance for ourselves, and more importantly, for our staff. We recognize that time off is not only precious but necessary, and we pledge to create an environment where we never ask you to put our family before your own.

Inclusive Hospitality – The SV taproom has always been a place where everyone should feel safe and comfortable. A place that attracts guests, and now staff, who are as diverse as Philadelphia itself. Sacred Vice has not, does not, and will not condone nor tolerate discrimination, harassment, or threats of any kind whether verbal, visual, or physical. Reports can be made safely and privately to our staff and management. We take all reports of discrimination and harassment very seriously, and if you witness something but would prefer to report it later, please email Matt.

Discrimination and harassment can include but are not limited to..

-Inappropriate comments related to age, ancestry, class, color, disability, gender identity or expression, mental health, physical appearance, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
– Disrespectful behavior, language, photography. social media posting or video recording.
– Unprompted physical contact or sustained unwelcome attention.
– Any language or behavior that is meant to intimidate or that may escalate to violence.

Music & Mood – It’s not just the people that make SV a comfortable, welcoming place. The atmosphere we aim for is your great aunt’s living room instead of a traditional taproom. Mid-century furniture, family mementos, a bar to pass hours at, and an eclectic and massive collection of LPs to listen to. Everyone’s musical tastes are respected, as well as everyone’s right to space and privacy.

Patience & Resilience – SV is being built to last. It will never be about getting rich quick or chasing fads. We’re humbly trying to make the best beer we can while working towards becoming a brewery that will make its mark in Philadelphia beer history over the long term, for the long term. We recognize that we won’t be able to achieve this goal without becoming part of our neighborhood, respecting and supporting our community, and building a place that our staff and our guests can both embrace and enjoy.

Be kind. Be considerate. Be patient and respectful. We look forward to serving you all in the near future and thank you dearly for your continued support.
